Companywide Conservation Efforts
Environmental Performance
We are committed to conducting our operations in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, striving for continual improvement in our environmental, health and safety (EHS) performance. Currently, we are collecting data using common metrics, and identifying and implementing reduction strategies.
Hazardous Waste Management
Through company-mandated pollution-prevention programs, waste treatment and recycling, material substitution and waste-minimization efforts, the volume and toxicity of company waste materials have decreased. Carefully managing the remaining waste is an ongoing priority.
Pollution Prevention Programs
It is our goal to reduce any negative impact to water, soil and air, to recycle waste materials, and to conserve energy. To do so, facilities develop and implement pollution-prevention (P2) programs. The company's policy is to require P2 programs at all sites.
Supply Chain Management
Over the past several years, more than 20 cross-sector teams made up of experts from Supply Chain Management organizations across Northrop Grumman have worked to engage suppliers whose products and services are in sync with greeNG.
Recycling Successes
In 2007, employees at company sites recycled more than 2,500 tons of paper and cardboard, 500 tons of wood, 31,500 tons of metals, 345 tons of computers and related equipment, 135,788 gallons of fuel/oil, and 85 tons of other materials such as batteries, tires, fluorescent light tubes, mercury thermometers, cables, and more. More than 400 tons of various useful materials were sold or donated.
This year, to build on our continually-increasing commitment to environmental performance, we are working to:
- Add electric and water consumption metrics and develop a data collection tool.
- Measure our greenhouse gas footprint.
- Evaluate the establishment of a greenhouse gas reduction goal.
