Robert Hinson


Robert C. Hinson is the Northrop Grumman Corporate Lead Executive (CLE) for the Nebraska region and sector vice president and deputy general manager of the Defense Mission Systems Division.

As CLE, Mr. Hinson has overall operating responsibilities for business in the greater Omaha area, providing strategic direction and coordination to key customers—the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) and Air Force Weather Agency. He is located near Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha.

Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, Mr. Hinson served for 33 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring at the rank of lieutenant general in September 2003. Prior to his retirement, he was vice commander of Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he assisted the commander in the development, acquisition and operation of the Air Force’s space and missile systems. Other key assignments included serving as deputy commander-in-chief of USSTRATCOM, Offutt Air Force Base; commander, 14th Air Force at Vandenberg Air Force Base; commander, 45th Space Wing, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla.; commander of the 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD; and chief of the Strategic Nuclear Policy Branch on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. Mr. Hinson is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flying hours, primarily in B-52, FB-111 and B-1 bomber aircraft.

Mr. Hinson’s awards and decorations include: Defense Distinguished Service Medal; Distinguished Service Medal; Defense Superior Service Medal; Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters; Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster; Air Force Achievement Medal; Joint Meritorious Unit Award with oak leaf cluster; Air Force Organizational Excellence Award; Combat Readiness Medal with oak leaf cluster; Good Conduct Medal; and National Defense Service Medal with service star.

Mr. Hinson received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee, and a master’s degree in humanities and education from Arkansas State University. He completed the Program for Senior Officials in National Security, John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
