Daniel L. Montgomery is Corporate Lead Executive (CLE) for Huntsville, Alabama.
As CLE for Huntsville programs, Mr. Montgomery serves as the principal corporate point of contact for Northrop Grumman’s Huntsville customers. He coordinates corporate-wide resources to satisfy current and future customer needs, and is responsible for all Northrop Grumman community activities, and corporate-wide, multi-sector business development initiatives.
In November 2004, Mr. Montgomery was named sector vice president and deputy general manager for Mission Systems’ Tactical Systems Division (TSD) and was also named CLE for the Huntsville region. He served as both CLE and sector vice president and general manager until 2006. TSD is responsible for large-scale, complex battlefield systems such as Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below-Blue Force Tracking (FBCB2-BFT) and Command Post Platforms (CPP).
In December 2003, Mr. Montgomery was assigned as sector vice president and program manager of Kinetic Energy Interceptors (KEI), where he oversaw the KEI program, a $4.5 billion, eight year program where Northrop Grumman is prime contractor leading a team that will develop and test a mobile land-based kinetic energy boost/ascent phase interceptor element for MDA’s global layered ballistic missile defense system. Before this assignment Dan was Deputy General Manager of the Missile Defense Division.
Mr. Montgomery joined Northrop Grumman in 1999 as director of the Air and Missile Defense market area. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, Mr. Montgomery served 32 years in the U.S. Army, retiring with the rank of Brigadier General. Brigadier General Montgomery held many senior management and leadership roles including the U.S. Army’s Senior Acquisition Executive for Air and Missile Defense Systems.
Mr. Montgomery earned a bachelor of science in mathematics from Presbyterian College, Clinton, South Carolina, and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso. He has attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, the Defense Systems Management College, and the Command and General Staff College.
Mr. Montgomery serves as a member of the board of directors for the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County. He is a member of the Association of the United States Army, the Navy League of the United States, the National Defense Industrial Association, and the Aerospace Industries Association. He has received many awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
